Parallel to MoqHao’s escalation, the Chinese cybercrime network Bigpanzi leverages Android-based smart TVs and set-top boxes to build a formidable botnet. Deceptive streaming apps, masquerading as gateways to pirated content, transform innocent devices into nodes of an illicit network, as unveiled in a report by Qianxin. Predominantly ensconced in Brazil, this botnet plays host to 170,000 dailies, embroiling them in a variety of nefarious activities. This includes content proxying and even the potential broadcasting of disruptive or inappropriate material, with consequences dire for societal order.
